Poker Night 11.30.07 @ 6:45pm

Here is the sign up list for the next poker game.  There is only two nights (four games) left until the end of the year tournament.  The end of the year tournament will be held on Friday December 28, 2007.

There will also be an Awards Banquet to pass out all prizes for the whole year to be held at Pat's Italian Restaurant (which Greg now is owner) on Sunday January 13, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.  If you could please post if you are planning on attending or not so we can get a head count and also if you plan on bringing a guest.

As of the end of this year I will also be taking a sabbatical.  I will no longer be hosting a poker league.  DO NOT WORRY.  There is talk that Greg is willing to host at his garage, but he is looking for several people to help out.  He is looking for setup people, treasurer, stat keeper and maybe a couple more.  He is also looking at changing the format to a game a night and is looking for input on if people would want to have a re buy or not and any other suggestions that people may have to make the game better.

Please post by Thursday November 29, 2007 @ 10:00 a.m.

Later,
Kurt

Paul will be there on Friday. I like the one game a night idea, no re-buy. If people want to hang around for a cash game there would be pleanty of time to play.

I am in for the 30th.

First, Kurt I want to thank you for carrying on this league for as long as you have. You have been more than generous, opening up your house to us. You have taken time away from your family and free time to run this league and I think you've done an excellent job.

Now on to the question you asked. I think the one game a night idea will work out nicely. Increasing the blind times and also adding the 30/60 blind level back in would be a good idea in extending the game.

In closing I would also like to say that I will not be coming nearly as much as I have in past years. I will be more than happy to help in any way I'm needed, but I only plan on attending 50 to 60% of the games. Thanks again to you Kurt and I will see you all on the 30th.

Kurt,

I agree with X...Thanks for putting this poker league together and letting us all disrupt your family every other Friday. As for me, I was planning on attending full time again next year. I myself, like the two games, like the format and the point system. As with everything, some changes can always be made.

I don't really like the additional add-ons and re-buys. I don't remember the WSOP or WPT having re-bys. Not to mention right now it is a nice cheap night out ($24). Jims house can cost $50 for one game.

As I haven't been much, you can take what I say with a grain of salt, but I would like to come back next year.

I'll check back about the 30th. The White Hawks are having a Tournament that night and I may be playing there....

Thanks for reading this.

I'll be there...

I like the idea of going to the one game a night. We've found that at my house, 20 minute blinds with all blind levels ($30/$60, etc.) seems to work very well.

Personally, having tried various rebuy methods at my house, I like the one rebuy during the first 3 blind periods. It makes it so you're not out of the game if you take a bad beat. Also you won't have to end up sitting around for an hour and a half before you have enough to start up a second game. Bad beats happen, so this reigns them in. A good example is last week at my house. Someone had Aces in the first hand and raised 3 or 4 times the BB. His one caller ended up tripping up on the flop and the guy with the Aces was out. Without the rebuy that person can pretty much just go home because waiting an hour or more to play a side game isn't a fun prospect.

I understand Keith's assessment of how much it can end up costing. At my house, with the $20 buyin and the $10 add-on, if you ended up buying back in you end up paying possibly $50. Buy I don't think we have to go nessessarily with $20 buy-in. If it was say, $15 (plus an extra 2 bucks for end of year prizes, etc.) with no add-ons, then at the worst you end up paying $32 for a fun night out, And that's with a rebuy.

I would recommend keeping it to one rebuy since we tried the unlimited rebuys at my house for the first couple of weeks, and 2 people alone (Mahammad was one of them) rebought 9 times. We limited the rebuys to one during the first hour and this really seemed to make for a great game.

I am willing to keep the statistics and help out as much as I can. I can usually make it about a half hour before and can usually help set up.

I would have no problem hosting in my garage, storage of tables and chairs may be a problem since I still want to use my garage. So a volunteer to bring over tables and chairs would be a great help. With all of these players I don't see why we can't have a rotating schedule using 4 or 5 places then each person would only needto host every couple of months.
The more important question I see here is.
1. Do we want to have a league or just bi weekly game so no one will feel obligated to attend.
Or do we want to just take a $5 per person rake to use to send a points winner to a $1000.00 buyin at Foxwoods and the remainder for a money tournament at the end of the year. Which could have a
$1500 pool or more. These questions need to be answered.

I propose a single game format with one rebuy in the first hour just like Jim said. So it is a $15 or $30 night plus whatever we decide the rake to be.
I also want to thank Kurt for starting and running a league that was so organized and will be hard to duplicate. We have over a month to come up with something that we can all agree on.

I'm in unless something changes with my status.
As most of you know I'm leaving the area (at some point)if I get a transfer so I don't know how many weeks remain for me. I'll regret not making the last tournament. But you never know.......So to comment on a format would be foolish. I realized at the first night I came that you all had a good thing going. I know you guys will do the right thing to keep it going.
If I'm back in the area for a visit, I expect an exemption to play.......
See you on the 30th

Just a quick post to say,

"John is IN for 11/30."

I'll post my "2 cents" later.

Elaine, Andy and George are in. Since they have me post for them and never read the blog, I have no idea on their opinions. I will mention it to them, and maybe repost. I myself, like the way it is now and having it every other week is fine by me. No opinion on one or two games, but if it gets costly, I like the $24. Not sure about the Foxwoods thing. Have you done that before? And Kurt thank you for hosting in your garage. You do run a nice tournament and I have enjoyed it. In fact, I think you deserve a bottle of Ouzo!!

Dave S is in for at least the first game on the 30th.

I am still thinking about the question.

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you with no life like me that actually look at the net on holidays and Happy Belated Thanksgiving to those of you that are normal.

Jack says he is in for 11.30.07.

Would rather have 2 games, but if we have one would rather NOT have rebuy or add-ons.

Tim and Alice are in. They are not sure on which game format for next year.

I'm in for 11/30. As for the format for next year I like the idea of one game with one rebuy. I know for me I drive 35 minutes to play on Friday night and to take a bad beat five minutes into the game and have to drive 35 minutes home doesn't sound like much fun. If we do a $15 buy in plus a $2 rake then with a rebuy you are looking at a $32 night max.

I'm out....

going to be out for rest of year (including the End of the Year tourney and Banquet)

Since I'm not gonna be at a lot of games next year I won't comment on how it should be run.

Kurt thanks for hosting the tourneys. For the last three years it was a lot of fun (esp. late night video games and the March Madness) Good luck to all of you.

If anyone has a chance to read this, it will be cold and Greg will bring his heater. We need to all chip in a few bucks for the gas. The other choice is freeze our asses off! Also each time we bought pizza there was change left over and we have $18.00 maybe we can just use that money?
See you Friday, Elaine

I'm in for this week. Thanks again to Kurt for putting up with all of us for so long and providing a place for us to have some fun without spending a lot of money.

As for next years format I'm pretty open to just about anything. I like the idea of 1 game a night with or without rebuy. Make the blinds longer and enjoy the more relaxed pace of the game. As with anything new though it may take a couple of experiments to find what the majority like.

Bill, I'll miss you at the year end tournament. You've been a big part of the group for the last couple years and it won't be the same without you. I hope you reconsider and can make it. Hope to see you then.
