Would you rather have one game with longer blinds or the same setup as we currently have? Please post which you would prefer and any comments are welcome.
I do like the idea of a single game but I think we will lose more people because of it since if you go out there is nothing to look forward to as far as getting another shot in the second game. So my vote is for two games with maybe the starting time of 6:00. The money is not really an issue since I never get in the money anyway. To me it is a nice quiet stress free night out (or was).
I would rather play one game for selfish reasons. When I play like a moron(like this week) I can walk home, watch a ballgame and go to bed at a decent time and not have to embarrass myself a second time. I'll be there either way. Most likely I would not make 6PM on a regular basis. I am OK with the $45 we pay now but would be just as happy with a reduced rate if it would bring back some players.
Love the idea of a single game. I'm getting old and I'm useless the next day if I finish up after 1 a.m. - and Tim has been working Saturdays for a while now and is not so good after 9. With a bigger starting stack and longer blinds, we'd have lots of playing time - and a side table for when we get knocked out early can be a lot of fun.
Starting at 6 would be a problem as not always home from work, but I guess I could just be blinded in until I got there.
Money-wise, not loving the idea of playing for 4 hours to make $80 bucks, but if that's what works for everyone else, so be it. We'll be there either way (but most likely just playing the 1st game.) We love playing with you guys!
I have been trying to come up with an idea where everyone who wants to play can play and here is what I came up with. One league game with $20 and $5 for the league. Stack size is 10,000 20 minute blinds. A seperate game to run at the same time with $50 buy in and a rebuy or buyin for $25 (5,000) anytime within the first 4 blind levels starting stack 10,000 no connection to the league game and no house money. The reason for the rebuy or buyin would be if you where knocked out of the league game early you could join the other game. Some tweeking may be needed but this would be the concept. I can think of at least seven players who wold probably play the off league game.
What if we have one game with a $20 buy in,$5 to house & a $10 add-on for 1/2 the original stack.
It would work the following way: 1. $20 - starting stack = 10K 2. If a player drops below 5K stack within the 1st 4 levels can buy a $10 add-on of 5K. 3. Levels 20 minutes 4. Add-on would be optional and only for players below 5K stack
The above would allow for a decent prize pool and any player who loses a substantial amount of chips within the 1st 4 levels can keep playing longer for only $10 more. Currently 2 games cost $45, this format would never get higher than $35 dollars.
I could really go either way with one or two games. I like the two game a night format, but since I have been playing one game a night for the past few weeks, I have started liking the fact of only being there for two to three hours and not the marathon of six to seven hours for tw games.
Honestly, the one game a night with the possibility of a second game sounds really good to me. Extend the blinds and lowering the buy in also sound like good ideas. I will be there for whatever you guys decide, you guys have done an awesome job doing something in hosting this league... something most of us aren't willing to do.
I like Matt's format the best, if the decision is for the one game (though I still like the two game format).
1 game with a deeper stack should make for a great tournament. But for the times when a player takes the bad beat allowing for the 1/2, or a full rebuy is fair (if only having one game).
As for the money I think we need to look at a few things...
If it is too low, meaning $10 or even $15, the prize payout will be very little. The drawback there is that we will end up losing some of the regulars. Some players have already stated to me that they would rather not play if they were only winning like $100. Sure we may add a couple of players by decreasing the buy-in, but we'll end up losing just about as many players who would rather go down to Foxwoods than play for the minimal stakes. The main thing to think about is that the ones that we would lose are there every week. Losing them would hurt the game. And the ones we might add by decreasing the cost have always been sporadic...
The idea of trying to start a second game at a certain point, for those who have busted out, is difficult as well. There may be some players who end up busting out within the first hour and a side game would likely not happen until 2 to 3 hours in. I know that the times when I have busted out early in the first game, like this past week when John caught lucky on me, the only reason I come back is because there is a second game. The idea of waiting another hour or two to play some side game is not appealing. So if there wasn't a second game, I would end up just leaving for the night. This is probably what most players would do.
Now another idea might be to have a $20 buy-in, with the $5 for the league, as well as the 1/2 rebuy for $10 during a certain period if a player gets down to a certain point, but for those who want to win more, a side pot option could be available. Say everyone who is interested can put in an extra $10 and anyone who is in it (before the game starts) has a shot to win the side. It could even be broken down for 1st, 2nd and/or 3rd. Of those players, the one that lasts the longest, wins the side pot. So even if one of these players goes out in 10th place, if they are the last of the players in the side pot, they win it. This might keep some of the ones who are more interested in the $ in the game...
I do think that we d=should shoot for a 5 hour tournament, if starting at 7. I recommend 7 because we always have many players who can't make it before that time.
I enjoy playing and after being trapped working at home all week, it is great to get out. The format is ok what ever way the majority decides but 7pm is better. 6pm would be really pushing it. $20 plus $5 is good or whatever works for everyone else. $10 is just too little. Either way it's still a cheap night out and I love all you guys too! Also Matt's format seems really good and he put a lot of thought into it. So if i had to vote, i like that! Here's to a fun 2010, wow now I feel old.

I like the idea of one game. There were many times when the second game did not finish until 1:30 AM.
Starting at 6:00 is okay with me, I may be late 30 mins. But I guess I could just be blinded in until I got there.
The buying is not an issue, but I'd rather just pay $10 per game. I never make it to the money.
The more I think about it, I also agree with the one game format.

Just a suggestion....
thanks, Matt
Blind structure for Matt's Game
25/50
50/100
100/200
100/200 25
150/300 25
200/400 50
300/600 100
400/800 100
500/1000 100
600/1200 200
800/1600 200
1000/2000 300
1500/3000 500
2000/4000 500
3000/6000 1000
4000/8000 1000
5000/10,000 2000
10,000/20,000 5000
20,000/40,000 10,000
This format would take 6 hours 20 minutes at 20 minute blind levels
not including the color up breaks

I like the 1 game with increased stack and buy in but am fine with what the majority goes with. The 20 +5 is fine with me also.

Rebuys would be good - is what I meant to put. sorry, its late.

I'm really in favor of 1 "deep stack" game a night - 10,000 chips and 20 min levels as suggested.
$20 towards the prize pool (just like now),
$ 0 for house/rake (just like now),
$ 5 for league/year-end tourney, etc. (just like now).
If game starts at 6pm I probably won't make it, so I'd vote for keeping the 7pm start time.
