I am sorry I missed it, but I am sure that I will see Nancy win many more now that she has gotten a taste of it. Well earned and well deserved.

The only complaint that I heard was that it could have used more light. People seemed to like the layout and the temperature.

17 people played and and that adds $85 for the end of year tournament bringing the total to $185.

Next Game Friday January 22, 2010

Ok, I am looking for any kind of feedback on how people think the 1st game of 2010 went.

We are still working on where the next game will be played, so check back to this site for further updates.

The following are some stats from the first night.

1. The rebuy period was 1 hour and 20 min. There were 5 rebuys - this is 25%. The first rebuy was at 30 min mark, then there were 3 more right around the 45 min mark and one at the end of the rebuy period.

2. The first person was knocked out at the 1 hour and 10 min mark, the 2nd person was knocked out at 1 hour and 50 min mark, third person 2 hour mark, 4th person 2 hour 5 min mark.

3. The final table was started at 10:00pm which was 3 hours into the game.

4. The game ended at about 11:10pm.

Greg and Kurt were looking at having the game end between 11 and 12 so we thought this was a successful night.

$100 was collected for the end of the year tournament. Greg and I will be taking some money out of this for propane unless people do not think we needed the heater.

2010 League to start Friday 1.08.10 @ 7:00pm

The first game of the 2010 league will be in Kurt's garage on Friday January 8, 2010. Start time is promptly at 7:00pm so come a little early to pay your dues and find your place at the table. Please post a comment to let us know if you are planning on coming.

Below are some guidelines that we will be following throughout the year.

Kurt and Greg’s Poker League 2010

When : every other Friday night starting Friday January 8, 2010 and ending Friday November 26, 2010. End of year tournament will be Friday December 10, 2010.

Time : start time is at 7:00pm. – if you have not paid by 7:00 pm you will have to wait to pay until the end of the current blind level. You will not be allowed to play until you have paid. If you are running late and get your money in beforehand you may play as soon as you arrive.

Format : It may be a work in progress, but we will start with the format suggested by Matt posted in this blog.

Buy in : $20 for initial buy in to be paid out each night

$5 for end of year tournament and banquet

$10 for rebuy to be paid out each night

Where : either in Kurt’s garage or Greg’s garage.

Post : you need to post if you are coming by noon on the Thurday before the game. This allows Kurt and Greg time to set up the correct amount of chips and get the computer setup ahead of time. If you do not post by this time you will not be included in the game.

Chairs : Please bring your own chair each and every time and take you chair home with you. Kurt and Greg will not be supplying chairs and will not be keeping other peoples chairs.

Ranting and Raving : Excessive ranting and raving will not be tolerated and you will be asked not to come back if it becomes an issue.

Parking : Please use Kurt and Greg's driveway for parking as much as possible and do not worry about blocking in other people playing poker. I would rather block in players than neighbors.

I know this sounds like a lot of rules and regulations, but we are just looking to have a good time. Any questions or concerns or rules are up to Kurt and Greg . If you do not like how something is being handled you may ask either one of them but their word is final. If you still do not like how it is then feel free to start a league of your own.

Greg and I have been talking about co-hosting the poker next year. I would hold it in my garage during the colder months since my garage is heated and Greg would host it in his garage during the warmer months.

We are talking about several changes for next year. Some of the bigger changes are

1. Buy-in we are looking at $10/game and 5$ for end of year

2. Chairs bring your own chair every week (if you forget it you can stand)

take your chair home every night (you can find it out at the trash the next day)

3. Sign up sign up will be cut off at noon on Thursday the day before - if you are not signed up by then do not show up

On the night of June 7, 2008, my wife Donna, will be participating in a very special event to help the fight to prevent suicide. It is called the Out of Darkness Overnight. It is a 20 mile walk in NYC from dusk till dawn. The walk is to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. AFSP is a non profit organization with the mission of understanding and preventing suicide through research and education and reaching out to people with mood disorders and those affected by suicide.

About 10% of the population suffers from depression. Of the 44 million who suffer from a mental disorder, only a third receive treatment. There are 30,000 lives lost each year to suicide. A suicide attempt occurs each minute of each day. A person dies of suicide every 16 minutes in the U.S. This year, 1 out of every 12 teenagers will attempt suicide.

OK. Last regular season poker night for KNK Poker League 2007 Season.

Greg is in first place in points and it looks like the only people that have a chance at all mathmatically are George, Tom and Jack, but they would have to have an exceptional night and Greg must have a terrible night.

I am still looking to hear from a couple more people to see if they plan on attending the Awards Banquet Dinner which is going to be held at Greg's new restaurant on Sunday January 13, 2008 at 5:00pm. Greg would like to have a final count by Friday night December 14, 2007. If you have not let me know please email me.

All prizes for the year will be given out at the Awards Banquet. No prizes will be given out at the end of year tournament.

Here is the sign up list for the next poker game. There is only two nights (four games) left until the end of the year tournament. The end of the year tournament will be held on Friday December 28, 2007.

There will also be an Awards Banquet to pass out all prizes for the whole year to be held at Pat's Italian Restaurant (which Greg now is owner) on Sunday January 13, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. If you could please post if you are planning on attending or not so we can get a head count and also if you plan on bringing a guest.

As of the end of this year I will also be taking a sabbatical. I will no longer be hosting a poker league. DO NOT WORRY. There is talk that Greg is willing to host at his garage, but he is looking for several people to help out. He is looking for setup people, treasurer, stat keeper and maybe a couple more. He is also looking at changing the format to a game a night and is looking for input on if people would want to have a re buy or not and any other suggestions that people may have to make the game better.

Hello,

This week when you post I would like you to also pick one of the following options for the End of Year Tournament. The End of Year Tournament will take place on Friday December 28, 2007.

Option 1 - We can do what we did last year and have a small buffet before the game on Friday December 28, 2007 starting at 5:30 pm with the End of Year Tournament to follow around 7:00pm.

Option 2 - We can have the End of Year Tournament on Friday December 28, 2007 starting around 7:00pm and then have an awards banquet at Greg's new restaurant on Sunday January 13, 2008 at 5:00 pm. The league would pick of the tab for dinner and gratuities (not alcohol). You could also bring a guest for $10.

If everyone could post which option they prefer and we will go with the majority.

There is a good possibility that this will be the last time we see Ryan for quite some time. He is thinking about returning to school on a full-time basis and living on campus. This leaves us with a vacancy in duties. Ryan has been acting as treasurer and collecting the money and also paying out the winners. This has been a huge help. If someone is willing to take over the duties of this thankless chore please let me know. You need to be reliable and show up by 6:30pm.

Next, please do not invite anymore people. At the beginning of the year we said no new people and somehow that has gone by the wayside. I really do not want to have more than 30 people on any given night. I would rather have 20 people on a slow night than have more than 30 people and tell someone that they cannot come.

I have also noticed that people are not coming on time. Is this problem due to the fact that we are starting to early or are people just getting lazy.

1. Back at Kurt's garage on June 1, 2007. Thank you to Greg who hosted it last time.

2. I would like to thank everyone for there thoughts and prayers for me and my family. For those of you who don't know, Donna's father died unexpectedly Monday May 14, 2007.

3. On a much happy not I would like to announce that Marc and Niki are the proud parents to Matilda. She was born Monday May 21, 2007 and weighed in at 6lbs 14oz and was 19 1/4 inches long. Matilda and her parents are reportly all doing very well.

4. The Poker game will start at 6:45pm so please try to make it on time, this means that you should show up at least a couple minutes before hand to pay and find your seat.

Hope to see everyone at the game on Friday June 1, 2007. If you know that you are not coming could you please post that as well as it does take the guess work out of how many people remembered to post.

I think the tournaments are going pretty good. Maybe a couple more tweaks. Any suggestions? I think Mark is pretty happy seeing he has won 3 out of the last 6 tournaments.

We are triing to start the tournaments at 6:45pm which means that people need to show up a couple minutes before that to pay and get there seats. By starting on time we are able to lengthen the tournaments a little and it is not getting over that much later.

Poker Night 4.6.07 Good Friday

Hello all,

Here is the signup list for the next game. The game is to take place on Good Friday. Hopefully it will be a very Good Friday for me.

Any thoughts on the minor changes to this past game? Many people thought that the blinds went quick, but they were the same length we have been using all year with the exception of the previous game. The differences were
1. the omission of the 40/80 and 400/800 blinds
2. the addition of the 150/300 and 800/1600 blinds
3. an additional 500 in chips.
The games were quick and we did get started right on time. Each game took about 2 1/2 hours and everything was cleaned up and cars put in the garage by 1:00am which I really liked. (Thanks for those who stuck around and helped out this past week and in weeks previous.)

I am open to suggestions on what people would like to see. Do you want to put the blinds back to how they were? Would you like to keep the additional blinds and maybe put back one of the blinds? Would you like to lengthen the blinds from 13 min to 15 min? Did you like the additional chips?

If you don't make it to the next game I would like to wish you all a good Easter.

Hello everyone,

The big question is NEW FORMAT VS OLD FORMAT. Which do you like?

I know there were a couple of glitches and these can easily be fixed. One that several people brought up was lack of side games. This was do to the fact that there were only three tables set up at the start which in turn was due to the weather. This can be fixed by setting up all four table right from the start. That would mean that side game action could start right away during the first game and could start after five people were out once the second game started. Hopefully soon we will not even need the heater.

There are several options we have. Try the new format next time to get more input. Go back to the old format for a week and then try the new format again. Scrap the new format and just go back to the old format. If you like the old format better please tell me if you did not like the new format at all and vice versa. Example, I know someone had said that they did not mind the new format but did like the old format better.

New Format - We are going to try a new format for the KNK Poker League. If it works we will switch over to it, if it does not work we will not do it again, and if it seems just OK we might try it once a quarter or so.

I am sure we will not get it right on the first try so if we deep this format there will be some adjustments made. Here are some of the changes.

One Big game with a second game to start once the first game gets down to 15 people. The 15 people left in the Big game are all in the points. The top 5 places in the second game will get points. the buy-in for the Big game will be $18. The buy-in for the second game will be $6. The goal of this format is to promote better poker. We will be doing this by increasing the starting chip stack and lengthening the time of the blinds for the Big game. The second game will be run with the same structure we currently use.

NEW YEAR, NEW STATS!!!

Here is the sign up blog for the first game of the new year. I hope everyone who played enjoyed the End of the Year Tournament. Congratulations to Greg for winning the Tournament. For complete results and stats visit the poker website.

Now, for 2007 Kurt's No-Limit Kasino. The point system has been tweaked just a little. I think the collection of the money at the beginning for both games makes things go much smoother. Ryan will be collecting the money at the next game to give me a little break, also when you pay him for the games give him your order if you want pizza or a grinder. This is so we can place our order to D&M early and they will make it all fresh. The price has gone up to $12 per game and pizza is $5.25. The first game will start at 6:45pm. The blinds are now all going to be 13 minutes long.

If you played as a regular in the 2006 season you may sign up anytime. The Friday before the game anyone can sign up. I am thinking of making the cutoff at 27 people, so make sure you sign up early. The deadline for signing up is the Wednesday before the game. If you are going to be late please let me know ASAP. If you need to bail out of the game please let me know ASAP.

Here is the new post. Please post if you are coming or not. If you could also post on the following issues as well.

1. If you would like to change your screen name for next year please let me know. This is the name that you see when you are seated and also what appears on the web site when you look up the stats.

2. What would people like to do about pizza during the games? Right now we order from Dominos, some people would like to try somewhere else. With Dominos everyone gets their own pizza with what they want on it(1 topping), if we try somewhere else it would probably be large pizzas that would be shared (? toppings).

3. Any requests for food at the end of the year tournament? The game will be starting at 6:45pm as usual, but there will be food and drinks before starting at 5:30pm.

The payouts for the point leaders are as follows.
1st $250
2nd $150
3rd $100
4th $75
5th $50
The only player with a chance to catch Ryan is Bill for 1st.
The only players with a chance to get into the top 5 spots are 14th place and up.
The second and last regular game of the season will be played as postion seating, meaning that Table 1 will have players 1-9, Table 2 will have10-18, and Table 3 19-27 (based on 27 players).

Hello everyone,

I think collecting the money and doing the seating arrangements is getting things to run a little smoother and we are getting started earlier. It is a good thing because the games are running longer and longer. Each game on last Friday lasted 3 hours. I also like getting the pizza order in earlier, giving more time to eat and getting the second game started faster.

Still looking for suggestions on making it even better for next year. Do people think we need to add another level of blinds after the 1000/2000 level? I like it as is but I am open to suggestions. The times are 15 min for the first 5 levels and then 11 min for the next 5 levels and then unlimited time for the 1000/2000 level.

We only have 2 nights left before the end of the year tournament. The top 25 people are looking like it is just about decided. I think next year the end of the year tournament will be open to anyone who comes to at least 50% of the games.

Ryan is getting closer to securing himself as Player of the Year 2006. Anyone who is within 1000 points still has a chance if they win the rest of the tournaments and he does not get any points.

Not much too say. Looking for some input on how people think last Friday went. Did you like the idea of collecting the money for both games when you walk in? How did people feel about finding their own seat at the tables?

Do not forget to post if you are going to be there for the next game or not. It is helpful to me if you post even if you are not coming. That way I know for sure if you are coming or not.

Hello all,

Here is your posting blog for the next game. There are only 4 nights left for this year. Looks like Ryan is running away with the title. I do believe that if the same person wins the last 8 tournaments and Ryan does not get anymore points that person would catch him.

Once again it seems that people are showing up later and later. It has been brought up that maybe unless we have your money by 6:45 you get penalized and cannot sit at the table until the end of the current blind level. What ends up happening is that people stroll in late and by the time money is collected and the person takes their seat someone else strolls in and it starts all over. If you show up once the money has been collected you will have to wait until the next set of blinds.

I have been asked to address talking at the table. As far as talking at the table, I am all for it, but please do not let it hold up the game.

Hello everyone. Sorry that the sign in blog is so late in getting posted. Had a busy weekend and then went down to NYC to see the US Open and sat in the rain for 5 hours. By the time I got back I was so waterlogged that I forgot what my password was to the website. It has taken me 3 hours to figure it out.

I have one small discussion. Several people have asked about making all the blinds 15 min longs. Who would like to try this and who would like to leave things as is?

Ok is the signup for the next game.

Lets try this again with the point system and the blinds.
Current point system works as follows.
You get a multiplier for the top 9 places which is then multiplied with a second multiplier which is based on the number of people.
9th place multiplier is 1, 8th place is 2, 7th is 3, 6th is 4, 5th is 5, 4th is 6, 3rd is 8, 2nd is 10, and 1st place is 12 with an extra bonus of 75 points.
the second multiplier is the number of people in the tournament divided by 2 rounded up

My suggestion for next year is as follows.
Keep the second multiplier as the number of people in the tournament divided by 2 rounded up.

Make the first multiplier as follows.
1st place - 15(no extra bonus), 2nd - 12, 3rd - 10, 4th - 8, 5th - 6, 6th - 5, 7th - 4, 8th - 3, 9th - 2, and 10th - 1
11th - 18th place get a multiplier of 0.5

Reason - I would like to see more people getting points. I think if you make the final table, which is ten people, that they should all get points. Also, I think if you make it to the first table merge that you should get some points.

Blinds.
Current blind sturctures is as follows.
15 min for the first 5 levels (10/20,20/40,30/60,40/80,50/100)
11 min for the next 5 levels (100/200,200/400,300/600,400/800,500/1000)
no time limit and capped at level 1000/2000
Are the games the right amount of time? Do we want to lengthen the games any? If so by how much? Where would you lengthen the blinds?

After the last game we are now exactly 60 percent done for the year. I guess that means if you continue with your current average you can take your points and divide them by 3 and then mutiply them by 5 to get what you will finish out the year with according to Statman.

I sure hope that my average increases or I have absolutely not chance of winning the year.

I think the games are running real smooth right now but I know we need to tweak some stuff for next year. (possible the points and maybe even the blind structure) If you have any suggestions please let me know.

I would like to thank Greg and his wife for holding the game in his garage last time.

I would like to start off by congratulating most of you. It seems most people are showing up a little earlier which is definately helping me out and we are able to start before 7pm which in turn made the night get over at a decenet hour. Also, thank you to the people who stayed and helped cleanup and put everything away.

I personally really enjoyed the side table during the second game where we played Pitch. It has been a while since I played and it was fun.

OK. Here is the signup blog for the next game. I thought that the games went quite smooth considering the large turnout. The second game was over around 12:30am. I think that it helped that we had the first game underway before 7:00pm.

Rumor has it the Greg and Jim are going to be holding games on the off Friday nights. I am hoping that one or both of them will post something on the blog.

What are some of the thoughts on how the positional game (game 1 where you were seated by your points)? Would we want to do this again maybe at the end of the year?

I would like to thank Greg for the use of the big screen for the garage door and the back door. I thought it was just as cool if not cooler than having the air conditioner going and I only saw a couple of mosquitoes.

I would also like to thank Ryan for coming over early and helping me finish my newest table. I could not have done it without his help.

I think that wraps it up for this week. No major issues that I can think of. Hope you all have a Happy Fourth of July if you are reading this before then.

Hello all. I hope you all had a Happy Fathers Day.

Next game is Friday June 30, 2006 at 6:45pm. This brings up the first issue on the agenda. Is 6:45 too early for everyone to make it. It seems that most people are not making it until much closer to 7:00 and therefore we are not starting until just past 7pm. There are several things we can do.

1. We can leave things as is and just wait for everyone to show. I do know in advance that some people are going to be late. (Example : Jack is usually right at 7 and he calls and tells me because he works until 7, last time Henry was late but Peter told me and he was all paided for. These are fine and I will start without them and just post them.)

2. If you are not here at 6:45pm and I do not have your money you run the risk of not playing in the first game.

3. We can change the time to start to either 7:00pm and start the whole game later, or change the start time to 6:30 so that maybe people will show up on time.

When you post feel free to put in your own suggestion or pick # 1,2 or 3.

Next issue.
The first game of the 6.30.06 night is going to be done based on your points. For example if we have 24 people Table one will go Bill, Jack, Ryan, Leo, Peter, Paul, John and Kurt. If one of those people are unable to make it then Mohamad would play on table 1 and so on and so forth.

This is just a one time thing and is only going to be done at the first game.

Are there any other thoughts or comments on how the games went this past Friday. How did people like the new chips. Where they confusing at all? Where you able to tell the difference in colors easily enough?

This is a two part blog. First, there was no sign up list at the last game so you need to sign up if you are coming. Second, when you sign up please take a moment to post some thoughts on the following issues.

Where to start? Can the league get to big? How many people do we limit it to? Do we go to just one game?

Fact #1: First game of last friday had 25 people and lasted just over 3 hours. How long would a game with 30 - 40 people last?

Here is the post for Friday Night poker at Kurt's No-limit Kasino. Everyone will need to post for themselves since I did not get a list from the last time. I was not fortunate enough to make it to the last game as kid duty called. I will however be at the next game.

I was able to talk to several of you about the game and get some input. It seems most people do like the games with the extra black chip, but when you post please put in your preference and we will go with the majority. Another issue that was brought up by just about everyone I did talk to was "community poker". What I mean by this is if you are not in the current hand please keep your mouth closed. Do not whisper to the player next to you what you folded. Do not spit out stats concerning the hand and if a player should call or fold. Do not egg people into calling or folding. NO COMMENTS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY.

Enough said. Who is in for next time? Did I scare anyone away?

New League 2006

First Night will be Jan. 13, 2006 at 6:45. (It will be an unlucky friday the 13th for many.) Play is planned to be every other Friday from that point on.

How many games? My vote is for 2 league games and if we play a third, make it a non-league game.

Money? I like keeping it at a ten dollar buy-in, with a dollar per game collected for the end of the year tournament and in games with 16 people or more take an additional $10 out of the pot for the end of the year tournament.

Blinds? With the current structure the games are lasting 2 - 2 1/4 hours. If we lengthen them I see little chance of a third game at all. We could try if people want.

Points? I am working on a point system. Please feel free to summit one. Points awarded to top nine places or half the people, whichever is less. I do not think a game should count if we have fewer than 10 people.

Chips, Antes and Blinds

There has been some talk about changing the chip count from $1000 to $1500. Also, changing the format to include antes in the later rounds. What this would do is basically set up our tournaments in the exact same format as is played at Foxwoods. The only difference is we would adjust the time so that we would be playing a tournament every two hours give or take.

I think the format we have now is nice, but it would be nice to use the same format as Foxwoods. Another thing is if we start having larger tournament I have only so many chips. Even though with the format used at Foxwoods you get more money, you actually get fewer chips.

Weekly Tournaments

Weekly tournaments. What else can I say? There has been quite a bit of talk about people wanting to play every Friday. I am all for it, except that I can not have it at my house every Friday. I will continue to have games at my house every other Friday. If someone else would like to hold it at there house, I am willing to let people borrow my tables.

Buy In

Currently we have a standard buy in of $10 per game. Some people have talked about having a $20 game and then the rest $10. Some think the first game should be $20 and some think if we have a third game that should be $20. I am interested what your thoughts are?

My thoughts are that I could play the game for $1 and I would still play the same way, I want to win. The money is not all that important to me. I hold these games for people to just have fun and play cards. I tell people up front that if they are coming to my house to win some serious cash don't bother because the stakes are not high enough.

If more people are interested in raising the stakes, I will go with the majority. Another option is to hold a special tournament a couple times a year with higher stakes.

I am looking for input on the points system. Currently we award points to the top 9 places as long as there are at least 11 players. If there are 10 players or less then just half the people get points (example - 5 places for 9-10 people, 4 places for 7-8 people). Some people have mentioned that we should have points for half the places regardless of how many people play. Please let me know your thoughts.
